Plus: 5 mistakes to avoid for muscle growth as a woman
Good afternoon 👋
❝The gut is often referred to as the second brain, and in many ways, it’s true. What happens in the digestive system affects the entire body and brain, which is why our work is so vital❞
~Dr. Sarah Streett (gastroenterologist)
In today’s email we cover “exercise snacking”, gaining muscle as a woman, and eating for (healthy) happiness.

One-Minute Book Review
The Happiness Diet: A Nutritional Prescription for a Sharp Brain, Balanced Mood, and Lean, Energized Body – by Dr. Drew Ramsey & Tyler Graham
The Standard American Diet (SAD), in this book referred to by that name or alternatively as the Modern American Diet (MAD) is… Well, let’s just say, the acronyms are fair.
So, how instead to eat for happiness? We hear a lot about eating for physical health, but mental health is just as important (indeed, as we sometimes say at 10almonds, “mental health is also just health”).
This book delves into the world of nutritional psychiatry, and sets about putting tools in the hands of the reader, to take control of how we are feeding our brains.
The advice will not shock regular 10almonds readers: it’s a plants-forward dietary approach (without being restrictive to such; fish and fermented dairy do feature too, for example) that prioritizes nutritional density, and in particular prioritizes specific nutrients that are critical for happiness.
The style is very accessible pop-science, minimal jargon, everything very clear. There are recipes for those who want them, and a respectable bibliography for all who don’t like taking someone’s word for it.
Bottom line: long-time 10almonds readers may not learn a lot here as we’ve covered the contents of this book over the passage of time, but a strength it does have is having everything in one place, and everything fresh in your mind if you read the book cover-to-cover.
